Did you know that there are some incredible Prague Outlander filming locations that you can visit in the Czech Republic?

The production team filmed in many parts of the city for series 2 that filled in for 18th-century Paris and the Palace of Versailles!

From stunning libraries to colourful streets, Baroque churches and government buildings.

There are lots of places to follow in the footsteps of Jamie and Claire Fraser.

Outlander is one of my favourite TV series of all time so I had lots of fun visiting all of these places.

Here are all of the Outlander filming locations in Prague and how to visit them!

Where was Outlander filmed in Prague?

Prague is often seen as the best-preserved city in Europe because it suffered the least damage during World War II.

So, it was the perfect location to film some of the 18th-century streets of Paris in series 2 as most of the buildings are original.

The Outlander team filmed in many locations around the city including the historic streets of Mala Strana near the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle district and Strahov Monastery.

It makes a great way to explore the capital of Czechia on an Outlander inspired trip.

Prague Outlander filming locations

1. Na Kampe / Parisian Streets

The main Outlander Prague filming location that is featured is Na Kampe in Mala Strana.

You’ll often see Jamie and Claire pass through here in their carriage to head to Jared’s home in Paris.

This amazing and colourful cobbled street can be found near the famous Charles Bridge in the city centre.

You’ll need to walk down the steps to get closer to the street itself from the West Bank.

You’ll also see an iconic archway that was used for the series here as well.

2. Czech Ministry of Culture / Jared’s Home

Most of the interior scenes of Jamie and Claire’s apartments in Paris were filmed in a studio.

However, you can visit where the exteriors of Jared’s home were filmed.

The outside of Jamie’s cousin Jared’s home in Paris was filmed at the Czech Ministry of Culture.

Years ago, this building used to be the Nostic Palace and was first constructed in 1660 by the Count of Nostitz, Jan Hartvig.

Today, you can visit the ministry and attend cultural performances throughout the year.

Look for the iconic archway where Jamie and Claire’s carriage goes in and out of the home!

3.  Radnicke Schody / Raymond’s Apothecary

In series 2, we see Claire wearing her gorgeous yellow and blue silk capes up a set of stairs in Paris to visit an apothecary.

It’s here she meets Master Raymond and makes an eccentric new friend!

These steps called Radnicke Schody can be found in the Prague Castle district in Mala Strana.

Prague Castle is one of the largest castles in the world and I visited here around seven years ago before my obsession with Outlander began.

It’s located on a high defence hill, with fairytale cobbled streets. There is SO much to see and places to eat with captivating views.

4. Military Church of St. John of Nepomuk / The Exterior of the Charity Hospital

When Claire confesses to Master Raymond that she feels lost, he encourages her to visit the charity hospital to pursue medical work.

She agrees and visits L’Hopital Des Anges, meeting Hildegarde and the nuns of the Couvent des Anges. Plus we meet her adorable dog, Bouton.

The exterior scenes of the charity hospital in Paris were filmed outside of the Military Church of St. John of Nepomuk (Vojensky Kostel Svateho Jana Nepomuckeho).

If you’re planning on visiting Prague Castle, the church can be found in one of the streets hidden near the complex.

5. Strahov Library / Where Jamie and Duverney play chess

Lastly, one of my favourite Prague Outlander filming locations has to be the Strahov Library!

The Strahov Monastery is a Premonstratensian monastery founded back in 1140 making it one of the oldest in the city.

In the monastery complex, you can find the Strahov Library which is regarded as one of the most beautiful libraries in the entire world.

The Philosophical Hall is a stunning book trove that was used in Outlander.

This is where Jamie plays chess with Duverney. Also, later in the series, the Comte Saint-Germain poisons Claire here.

You’ll also see it when Claire walks through ‘Versailles’ to meet King Louis in his chambers to try and free Jamie from the Bastille.

Aside from a filming location, the library is well worth visiting as it contains precious books, rare medieval manuscripts, maps, and celestial globes.

There are also beautiful frescos, library ladders and precious artefacts to admire.

For a small fee, you can take a tour of the Strahov Library to see the Philosophical Hall and the equally stunning Theological Hall next door.

It’s good to know that you cannot go inside the library halls with a standard ticket. You’ll be viewing the library rooms through a window.

To go inside the halls, you must book a guided tour at least six weeks in advance.

Are you looking for more things to do in Prague?

Prague is a whimsical city in Europe that looks like it’s been plucked from the pages of a fairytale.

It’s filled with charming cobbled lanes, colourful buildings, libraries, and royal castles.

In the historic centre, you must take a stroll along the Charles Bridge, visit the Astronomical Clock and climb up the Town Hall Tower.

A visit to Prague Castle cannot be missed, where you can visit the royal staterooms, St George’s Basilica, St Vitus Cathedral and Golden Lane.

Prague is also a city of incredible libraries. As well as the Strahov Library, I recommend visiting the Klementinum Library and the Infinity Book Tower.

There are also lots of cafés and bars like the Dancing House, Cafe Savoy, the Hemingway Bar and the Oldest Tavern in Prague.

Honestly, there is so much to do in this city you’ll need at least 3-4 days to fit it all in.
